Nashwa is an artist who uses film, video and performance to explore how to live with that which haunts our collective past, present, and possible futures. Her work often dwells between realms of difference, dreams and spaces where the uncomfortable touches the whimsical.

Born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Nashwa grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. After moving to New York City to study filmmaking at NYU’s Tisch Film and Television program, Nashwa worked as a sound designer, producer and was also the assistant to Wes Anderson on his film Isle of Dogs. Nashwa maintains a commitment to arts community organizing with a particular interest in analog film, sound art and the South Asian diaspora. As a performer, Nashwa thrives playing women who test the limits of social boundaries. Nashwa’s directing and acting work has screened at festivals globally including Nashville Film Festival, San Jose International Short Film Festival, The Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York and Kulturhuset, in Oslo, Norway.

Currently, Nashwa is an MFA student in Directing in the Film/Video program at the California Institute of the Arts. She is based in Los Angeles.
